Rush Select 95 Boys take title in dramatic fashion
The Rush Way philosophy proved to work again, this time in the 95 boys’ age group. The U16 team was comprised of 15 players from 6 different cities across the state. The team played in the Capital City Cup held annually at Burns Park in North Little Rock.
The team started out well with a 3-0 win over TUSC 95 out of Texarkana, Arkansas. The second game ended 1-1 against Brandon FC from Brandon, Mississippi. With the win and the draw, the team earned enough points to win the group and advance to the semifinals. The team came out very motivated to make it to the championship and played a great game against Saints FC from Louisiana and came out on top 2-0.
In the finals, the team faced the Brandon FC team again. This time the game would have to have a winner. After a hard fought game in regulation, the score was tied 0-0 and it was off to overtime. The teams would play two 10-mintue periods of golden goal. The first period ended scoreless and with one minute left in the second period, the draw was broken. A. Carter found herself on the left side of the field and played a great cross to a wide open L. Hampton who finished off the game with a shot to the far post.
Congratulations to the Rush Select 95B team for their championship.
