Nike 94 Boys Advance to Presidents Cup Nationals
Teamwork earns Nike 94 Boys a Region III Championship and a berth at the National event!
The Arkansas Rush Nike 94 Boys represented the U17 boys’ age group for the state of Arkansas at the Region III President’s Cup tournament June 9-12 in Decatur, Alabama. The Nike 94 B played against the other state champions of the region. The boys faced the President’s Cup champions from Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee and North Carolina on their way to capturing the championship. Nike 94B played CASL from North Carolina in the final and came out on top 1-0.
“The goal in the final represented everything these boys accomplished over the weekend; teamwork and work rate,” said Matt Mittelstaedt, head coach for the Nike 94B. The goal came 30 seconds into injury time of the first half with the boys applying pressure in the attacking third and causing a turnover. The team then worked together stringing 5 passes together covering the width of the field. Mat Brockway finished a brilliant cross from Kyle Hendren to give the team the only goal they would need.
The Nike 94B team has reflected the Rush Way philosophy the entire year with their commitment and dedication. The U17 team is comprised of 18 players from 8 different cities across the state.
After several weeks of training, the team travels this week to the National President’s Cup tournament in Des Moines, Iowa. The Nike 94 Boys will face the other three Regional Champions for a chance to play for the National Championship on Sunday, July 10.
